Bio

I am Duygu Uygun-Tunç. I am a philosopher interested in epistemology and philosophy of science. In particular I think and write on scientific methodology, the nature of scientific justification, epistemic competence and responsibility in scientific inquiry, social aspects of scientific knowledge and the properties of epistemic systems.

I currently work at Eindhoven University of Technology, Philosophy & Ethics (P&E) group. I recently completed the research project Extended Scientific Virtue, funded by the European Union’s Horizon 2020 Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions. You can find the project summary and extended project description here.

I finished my PhD at Heidelberg University and the University of Helsinki in October 2020. In my doctoral research I undertook an interdisciplinary metaphysical investigation of personhood in reference to semiotics, communication theory, comparative and developmental psychology, cognitive science and anthropology. My dissertation Communication and the Origins of Personhood is accessible here and here.
